Video: Michael Schrage: Who Needs Voicemail Anymore?

I sent my boss this article from NPR last week about how companies are saving millions shutting off voicemail.

The bank blew past its goal of eliminating half of its voice mail boxes and to date has eliminated about two-thirds. Across the whole bank so far, that’s over $8 million in annual savings. Coca-Cola recently made a similar move and only 6 percent of employees chose to keep voice mail.

Then I came across this video that reinforced the idea and thought it would be a good post. Would you get rid of your work voicemail? I think I would volunteer if I had the choice. With email, cell phones, and text – I am always available, I’d rather not have another thing to check.

Tech expert Michael Schrage calls voicemail “an anachronism” whose time has come and gone. Could e-mail be next? The author of “The Innovator’s Hypothesis” (http://goo.gl/NPIHDC) explores different modes and styles of communication looking toward the future.
